Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 31, 2026

1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains what personal data MCIC ("we", "our", or "the app") collects, how we use it, and the rights you have over it. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide

  • Account information — your name and email address, which you provide when creating an account.
  • Password — stored only as a hashed value using a one-way hash; we never store or have access to your plain-text password.
  • Content you create — your categorizations, including their names, the category structure, and the items they contain.

2.2 Information from Google Sign-In

If you sign in with Google, we receive the profile information that Google makes available to us, such as your name, email address, and profile picture. We also store tokens required to keep your session working.

2.3 Information Collected Automatically

  • Session and authentication data — we use cookies and JSON Web Tokens (JWTs) to keep you signed in and to protect your account.
  • Log data — our servers and hosting provider may automatically record technical information such as your IP address, browser type, and pages visited when you use the app.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To create and manage your account and authenticate you when you sign in.
  • To email you a verification code to confirm your email address.
  • To store and display your categorizations so you can view, edit, and share them.
  • To power community features, such as sharing, liking, disliking, and copying categorizations.
  • To improve the app, diagnose technical issues, and keep the service secure.

4. Public Content

Categorizations you choose to share become publicly visible to anyone with the link and appear in the community feed. This includes your chosen display name and profile picture alongside the content. Any information you include in a shared categorization is public. You can unshare a categorization at any time.

5. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal data. We only share data with trusted service providers who help us run the app:

  • Google — for OAuth sign-in, when you choose to log in with Google.
  • Resend — to send verification emails to the address you provide.
  • Database and hosting providers — where your account data, content, and authentication records are stored and served.

We may also disclose information when required by law, or to protect the rights, property, and safety of our users or the public.

6. Data Retention

We keep your account information and content for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your personal data and your categorizations. Note that copies others have made of your public categorizations are not under our control and may remain after deletion.

7. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights:

  • Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Rectification — correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Deletion — request that we delete your personal data.
  • Restriction — ask us to limit how we process your data.
  • Portability — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
  • Withdraw consent — withdraw any consent you gave at any time.
  • Complain — lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us by emailing privacy@jtmishenko.dev. We will respond within a reasonable time.

8. Data Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including hashing passwords, storing only the minimum data needed, and using secure, encrypted connections. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information.

9. Children's Privacy

The app is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date above. Your continued use of the app after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
